The Tradition

Minnesota Meditation Center is part of the Dhammakaya tradition of Theravada Buddhism, which traces its roots to Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani, Thailand — one of the most visited Buddhist temples in the world. The tradition emphasizes the practice of meditation as the foundation of spiritual development, ethical living, and service to community.

The Dhammakaya method teaches that peace is not found outside — it arises from within, through consistent and sincere practice. This understanding guides everything that happens at our center, from weekday guided meditation to Sunday ceremony.

MMC is one of 16 Dhammakaya centers in the United States and part of a global community of practitioners in more than 30 countries. View the worldwide network.

A Home for Minnesota's Buddhist Community

Minnesota Meditation Center has served the Twin Cities' Thai and Lao Buddhist community since 2007. For families who have made Minnesota home, the temple is a place to maintain practice, observe tradition, and pass it on to the next generation.

All are welcome at Sunday services — whether you are part of the Thai community, a practitioner from another Buddhist tradition, or someone coming to the temple for the first time. The center also offers English-language meditation classes every Wednesday and Saturday for those newer to practice.

Part of a Global Tradition

Minnesota Meditation Center is affiliated with the Dhammakaya Foundation and is one of more than 100 centers worldwide carrying this tradition forward — across the United States, Europe, Asia, and beyond. We share one practice, one lineage, and one purpose.
